Entrance exam visas for medical and dental programs

Non-EU foreign nationals registered for the medical and dental school entrance exam scheduled for August 27, 2026, must apply for a C visa.

For entrance exam visa applications, the following documents are required:

1. a valid international passport (the validity of the passport must exceed the end of the proposed trip by at least three months); and a copy of the used pages of the passport and a copy of national ID-card and a copy of the used pages of your previous passport (if you have one);
2. a visa application form and 1 recent passport photograph;
3. ticket reservation;
4. a certificate of registration for the medical and dental school entrance exam issued by ARES;
5. a diploma or certificate of completion that grants access to Belgian higher education (high school diploma or baccalaureate);
6. proof of equivalence of the diploma or baccalaureate, or proof that an application for equivalence has been filed;
7. transcripts;
8. any information demonstrating that registration for the entrance exam is a plausible continuation of the applicant’s academic or professional path;
9. proof of accommodation valid for the entire duration of the stay (hosting certificate, hotel reservation, etc.);
10. proof of sufficient financial means, via one of the following:
    1. personal
       1. credit card and a copy;
       2. personal salary slips (3 months);
       3. personal bank account statements (6 months); and/or
    2. or a commitment to cover expenses signed by a person who meets the conditions to act as a guarantor (Annex 3bis).
11. travel medical insurance valid for the entire duration of the stay;
12. proof of intent to return to the country of origin or residence before the visa expires, i.e., any document or information demonstrating that the applicant intends to leave the Schengen Area after taking the entrance exam: strong family ties, proof of steps taken to enroll in a higher education institution in the country of origin or in another country for the academic year in the event of ineligibility for medical or dental studies in Belgium, proof of employment, …

Additional documents may, where appropriate, be required. Presentation of a complete file does not necessarily mean that a visa will be issued. Applications have to be transmitted minimum four weeks before the actual travel date.
