Passport application

Please always mention your Belgian national register number or Belgian passport number when communicating with the Belgian Embassy in Islamabad.

Only Belgians registered at the Embassy of Belgium in Islamabad or at another Belgian diplomatic or consular post abroad can apply for an ordinary passport. Therefore, if you are living in Pakistan/Afghanistan, we advise you to register at the Embassy first.

The Belgian passport is biometric. The applicant has to come in person to the Embassy to get his data collected (fingerprints, live photo and signature), except children under 6 years. For children under 6 years, we accept the form, one passport photo (for more information about the requirements for the photo, please see below) and the money by post. However, the Embassy will not be liable for any loss of documents/money sent by post.

In order to submit a passport application, please send an email to islamabad@diplobel.fed.be to request an appointment.

Please bring with you to the Embassy:

  • Passport application form (in French, Dutch or German) fully filled out and signed (for the children signed by both parents and by the child if older than 6 years). There is a special form (in French, Dutch or German) for children under 6 years.
  • 75 euros for a passport for adults (exact amount in euros, cash only)
  • 35 euros for a passport for minors, under 18 years (exact amount in euros, cash only)
  • For adults: Belgian ID/passport
  • For minors: Belgian/Pakistani IDs/passports of both parents (the document(s) must contain a signature of the concerned parent) and of the child
  • One recent passport photo which meets the set standards (45 mm on 35 mm) in colour, on an even white background. More information about the requirements for the photo can be found on the following links: in French - in Dutch. Please do not stick the photo to the passport application form.
  • Original previous passports for cancellation/destruction.

Once the passport application has been submitted at the Embassy, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks for the passport to arrive at the Embassy. You will receive an automatic email notifying you of the arrival of your passport in the Embassy. You can come and pick up the passport during the Embassy's opening hours.

Temporary passports

Belgians who are not registered at the Embassy of Belgium in Islamabad or at another Belgian diplomatic or consular post abroad can, under certain conditions, apply for a  temporary passport. There are two types of temporary passport:

  • With a validity of one month (10 euros)
  • With a validity of one year (50 euros)

If other non-Belgian family members requiring a visa (= parent, brother, sister) travel to Belgium with a newborn Belgian child or child who has received the Belgian nationality, the Embassy will only issue a temporary passport with a validity of one month if/when the visa for the other family members are granted.

In order to submit an application for a temporary passport, please send an email to islamabad@diplobel.fed.be to request an appointment.
